Deciphering aseismic deformation along submarine fault branches below the eastern Sea of Marmara (Turkey): Insights from seismicity, strainmeter, and GNSS data

چکیده

The recently observed slow transients in the Sea of Marmara are important to quantify seismic hazard and risk for greater Istanbul metropolitan region. In this study, we analyze characterize a slip event that occurred Eastern 2016. To temporal history location event, combine first time region different types geodetic data (strainmeters GNSS stations) seismicity. We propose two interpretations explain observations: either initiated on western part Armutlu fault then propagated approximately 40 km eastward, or it section fault, jumped onto perpendicular after propagating ca. 15 km. deduce these from forward modeling strain displacement data. addition, our results also suggest triggered seismicity neighboring fault. • study transient signal 2016 strainmeters, one station. use an Independent Component Analysis method remove seasonal component strainmeter recordings. model as succession tectonic deformation events.

Locally and remotely triggered aseismic slip on the central San Jacinto Fault near Anza, CA, from joint inversion of seismicity and strainmeter data

We study deep aseismic slip along the central section of the San Jacinto Fault, near the Anza Seismic Gap, in southern California. Elevated strain-rates following the remote Mw7.2 April 4, 2010 El Mayor-Cucapah and the local Mw5.4, July 7, 2010 Collins Valley earthquakes were recorded by Plate Boundary Observatory borehole strain-meters near Anza, and were accompanied by vigorous aftershock seq...

Focal mechanism determinations of earthquakes along the North Anatolian fault, beneath the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean Sea

We determined the centroid moment tensor (CMT) solutions of earthquakes that occurred along the North Anatolian fault (NAF) beneath the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean Sea, using data obtained from Turkey’s broadband seismograph network. The CMT solution of the 2014 Aegean Sea earthquake (Mw 6.9) represents a strike-slip fault, consistent with the geometry of the NAF, and the source-time function...

INDUCED SEISMICITY. Seismicity triggered by fluid injection-induced aseismic slip.

Anthropogenic fluid injections are known to induce earthquakes. The mechanisms involved are poorly understood, and our ability to assess the seismic hazard associated with geothermal energy or unconventional hydrocarbon production remains limited. We directly measure fault slip and seismicity induced by fluid injection into a natural fault. We observe highly dilatant and slow [~4 micrometers pe...

the ecology of the ostracoda (crustacea) species obtained from erdek bay (the marmara sea, turkey)

abstractthe aim of this study was to determine the ecology of the ostracoda species in the sediments collected from the erdek bay and to observe the relationship between ecological parameters with the number of ostracoda species and individual numbers. sediment and water samples have been collected seasonally from 8 stations of the study area from six different depths (0.3; 1; 5; 10; 20; 30 m)....
